The Kingdom Story Lesson Types
Storyline Version (SV)
The Storyline Version of the Kingdom Story is written to be used in weekly 45-60 minute sessions — perhaps in a small group, Sunday School class, or training class. There is no expected preparation, although students are invited to spend 10 mins looking at the passage and to read the retelling beforehand. Students are encouraged to spend 10-20 mins in follow-up work after the gathering.
Discipleship Version (DV)
The Discipleship Version of the Kingdom Story is written to be used in weekly 75-90 minute sessions — perhaps in a more Bible study focused small group, Sunday School class, or training class. It is also ideal for a Christian high school, intern program or a spiritual formation class. With the right teacher/context, it can be used for seminary level class on discipleship or OT/NT. Students are encouraged to spend 30-60 mins in preparation and also to follow-up outside of class. Group and/or individual time serving in the community and exploring a burden and calling are also key ingredients.
The Leadership Institute uses the Discipleship Version; students participate in a variety of “extra’s” or deeper experiences of the normal D version. Appendices for bible study, responses to the class material, regular service in an organization and the community, and a mentoring relationship. These can take up to four hours a week, and are in addition to the
weekly 2.5 hour sessions.
